You should also check the quality of fluid, which should be clear or light amber. Dark or dirty fluid may need to be replaced. Finally, either top up or replace the fluid if necessary and securely replace the reservoir cap.
It’s important to replace and top up your car steering fluid when necessary, as low power steering fluid levels will mean reduced pressure and could lead to unpredictable and heavy steering. It’s also recommended to replace your power steering fluid completely every two years or 70,000 miles, as dirty fluid can begin to wear away at seals on the steering rack.
